Dan Fried, CEO
Dan Fried attended Central Connecticut State College where he majored in organic chemistry. He began his working career at Chesebrough-Pond's (now Unilever) working in the research and development lab specifically doing atomic absorption and infrared spectroscopy as well gas chromatography. While mostly working on food and cosmetics, Dan had his eye on the bigger picture specifically going after metals of all different types in the laboratory. Working for five years as a lab chemist gave him the background he needed for his own work. As a member of the international precious metal Institute, Dan regularly attends conferences and workshops to keep up with the latest and greatest in lab and metal refining technology.
Geoffrey Gold, General Manager
Geoffrey has been with Specialty Metals since he graduated high school. He rose through the Specialty Metals ranks by starting as a scrap sorter and eventually landing a position in the sales department. In 2007, he became one of the Sales Managers, and in 2011, became the General Manager. With degrees in Business Administration and Accounting, Geoff has been able to help grow Specialty Metals over the last decade. On the job training has given him experience with all different types of precious metal scrap, ranging from high grade gold bullion to low-grade circuit boards and platinum catalyst. As General Manager, Geoff oversees day-to-day operations throughout Specialty Metals, focusing mainly on customers and shipments.
Jeffrey Lee Simons, Social Media Director
Jeff has nearly thirty years of diverse advertising, marketing and promotions experience. He cut his teeth in direct response in the 80’s as Marketing Director of Model Expo, Inc., America’s largest mail order hobby company. In the 90’s, he was Creative Director for Corporate Marketing at Marvel Entertainment Group when Brandweek named them Kid’s Marketers of the Year. The millennium found him as Director of Integrated Marketing at Tanen Directed Advertising, working with clients ranging from small start-ups to Citigroup, MasterCard, PepsiCo, Pitney Bowes and the United Nations. In 2010, Jeff launched JL Simons Marketing & Advertising Consulting, enabling him to service a broader range of clients in Social Media marketing, frequently as their Director of Social Media. He is an annual guest lecturer on Internet Marketing and Social Media at SUNY New Paltz. Jeff has also run his own critically acclaimed game company, Q.E.D. Games, Inc., co-founded an ad agency, co-authored a book on Cause-Related Marketing with Dr. Richard Steckel, “Making Money While Making A Difference,” and written “Lexicon: words and images of strange” and “Toyphabet” with noted artist Viktor Koen. Jeff was born in Brooklyn, NY and has a BA in Literature from Georgetown University. He lives in New Jersey with his wife, daughter, and 4 cats.
Jeff Pate, Senior Art Director
Jeff Pate has been a Designer/Senior Art Director for 18+ years, ever since graduating with honors from UNH. He specializes in Direct Marketing, covering the spectrum of print projects and developing a vast array of web materials to the point of hand-off for coding and programming. The solutions he creates for clients are original, results oriented, response getting and budget conscious. Jeff's expertise at delivering creative that embodies a client's marketing strategy while remaining relevant to their brand positioning has led to many successful projects and partnerships. His clients have included IBM, Motorola, MasterCard, Parke-Davis, Bristol-Myers Squibb, PepsiCo, Nestlé Waters North America, Readers Digest, the United Nations, StraighterLine and others.
Barry Lenson, Blogger
Barry has written blogs, eNewsletters, website copy, whitepapers and other content for The Pohly Company, BizUnite, NBC, The Trump Organization, Step By Step Marketing, and many other clients. Barry has written and co-authored more than 10 books, including Lifestyle and Event Marketing (McGraw-Hill) and Multicultural Marketing (McGraw-Hill). Barry was formerly Senior Editor at the National Institute of Business Management, where he edited Executive Strategies, Working Smart and other newsletters and wrote many books and marketing premium publications. Barry earned degrees from both McGill University and Yale.
