Great Places to Look for Precious Metal Scrap Right Now

It’s no secret that the Covid-19 pandemic is on the way out! Like you, we are extremely grateful to hear that wonderful news.

But the pandemic has left so much sadness behind. The saddest part of it all is that so many of us have lost loved ones who can never be replaced. And there are other sad results too. One is that many of us have lost jobs. Still others of us have seen our businesses suffer or even close.

As we say, it has been a very difficult time. But we hope you will not mind if we write today about one positive result of the pandemic, which is that it has created some notable opportunities for people who are still looking for gold scrap, silver scrap, and even platinum scrap that we can buy at low prices and recycle profitably.

Where can we find those new opportunities? Here are some that have emerged during and after the pandemic.

  • Jewelry stores that have closed and are liquidating their stock. Many are selling not only unsold jewelry, but also stocks of jewelry-making supplies that can include rolls of gold and silver chain and wire, silver and gold-soldering supplies, and supplies of findings like clasps and pins that were used to repair jewelry. No doubt about it, out-of-business jewelry stores can be a great place to find gold scrap and silver scrap.

  • Metal fabricating businesses. Be on the lookout for brazing and welding supplies – including fluxes and welding rods – that almost always contain silver. Snap them up and send a sample of what you have to us for testing.

  • Used appliance and restaurant equipment stores. Many of these businesses still exist in urban areas, and they can be great places to hunt for thermocouples in used stoves and air conditioners.

  • Commercial and industrial buildings that are closing. They are great places to claim large quantities of thermocouple wires that were used in heating and cooling systems. If you can snap up a large quantity and send us a sample for testing, you just might discover that you can make a lot of money by recycling thermocouples.

  • House sales. The pandemic has been a time when many people have moved. Due to economic conditions, parents have moved in with their children, parents have decided to sell their homes and move into retirement communities, and other changes have taken place. And as any precious metal hunter knows, house sales can be great places to buy old jewelry, silver tableware, electronic devices, old computers – and lots more. If you get in the habit of cruising these sales, chances are good you will come away with precious metal scrap and items you can profit from.
