Goldfinger and Beyond: These Movies Will Get You Excited about Investing in Gold

Sean Connery, who most people agree was the greatest of all the actors who played James Bond on screen, died this week. His way of introducing himself with only three words – “Bond. James Bond” – has become one of the most often-quoted lines in movie history.

As Bond, Connery was associated with many things, including the Aston Martin DB5 that he drove in the movie Goldfinger. Which brings us to the fact that thanks to Goldfinger, Connery was also closely associated with gold.

So let us suggest that while you are holed up at home watching movies just now, why not watch Goldfinger? Doing so just might motivate you to start investing in gold scrap. (Hey, it’s exciting, right?)

And while we are recommending that classic, we will also recommend that you check out these other films about gold. They’re exciting, motivating, and they just could get you to ramp up your investments in gold scrap.

The Italian Job (2003) – As gold heist movies go, it doesn’t get much better than this. Mark Wahlberg, Mos Def, Charlize Theron and Donald Sutherland play a gang of master thieves who set out to recover a gold treasure that was robbed from them by a former accomplice, played by a very evil Ed Norton. This film has a great setting in Venice, terrific boat chases, nail-biting suspense, and more. Plus, there are piles of gold bricks waiting to be stolen.

Alan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold (1987) – This easy-to-overlook film is another adventure in which khaki-clad adventurers slog through jungles while looking for gold. But it’s surprisingly good, thanks in part to a cast that includes Sharon Stone and James Earl Jones, who turns up in the darndest movies. It could motivate you to start a gold hunt of your own.

Austin Powers: Goldmember (2002) – You might love this off-color comedy from Mike Meyers, or you might hate it. But it certainly does have to do with gold.

City of Gold (1957) Here’s something unusual and educational. It’s a documentary about the Klondike gold rush of 1848. It’s quite well done. Be prepared to learn some interesting facts as you see the locales that were explored by prospectors during the great gold rush.

City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly’s Gold (1994) – If the film City Slickers was enough for you, why would you bother to spend time watching this sequel? Well for one thing, it brings together Billy Crystal and John Lovitz one more time. Another reason is that it is all about gold. And for us, that is reason enough.

Fool’s Gold (2008) – Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey play a couple who set out to look for a lost treasure. It’s a rollicking treasure-hunting adventure that centers on gold.

Gold (1974) – Think of this as a James Bond film that has nothing to do with James Bond. It stars Roger Moore, John Gielgud and Susannah York searching for riches in a lost gold mine.

MacKenna’s Gold (1969) – Here’s a treasure-hunting adventure you might have missed. And surprise of surprise, it’s actually a good film. Credit might go to the fact that the cast included Gregory Peck, Omar Sharif, Telly Savalas and even Julie Newmar. If you fire up this film, prepare to have some gold-related fun.

The Gold Rush (1925) with Charlie Chaplin – It’s a heartbreaker and a romance set in the frigid north during the great gold rush of 1848. Granted, it doesn’t have too much to do with gold, but it’s a masterpiece.

The Solid Gold Cadillac (1956) – This comedy, which starred George Burns and Judy Holliday, has never been considered a masterpiece. But it’s a fun slice of life from the 1950s, and gold plays a role.
